  blending of modern\nmetaphysical thought (New Thought) with the timeless 
 teachings found in\nancient spiritual and philosophical traditions. The Ne
 w Thought movement\nbegan in the mid-19th century\, and as it gained momen
 tum\, people drew\nparallels between its principles and the ancient wisdom
  of Eastern\, Western\,\nand other traditions. The phrase suggests a synth
 esis or bridge\, implying that\nmodern thought traditions and ancient teac
 hings are complementary rather\nthan exclusive\, and that contemporary und
 erstandings of mind and\nconsciousness can be enriched by age-old wisdom t
